I took Anne Cox’s class, Hooking Without a Net, at the 2018 Green Mountain show, and she gave me the inspiration and encouragement needed to create this design as I went along. I started with just the shapes of the three seed pods and went from there. It was wonderful to change the design, almost organically, as it unfolded – where the borders would start and stop, the direction of the border, varying the textural content of the blue sky.
The entire rug was influenced by my love of Australian Aboriginal artwork.
About the artist:
I have been hooking for about 20 years, and am a juried member of the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen. I belong to both Green Mountain Guild and New Hampshire’s ATHA guild, White Mountain Woolen Magic.
In this time of Covid-19, I have swung from not hooking at all for weeks to having weeks of hooking incessantly. Mostly, I will remember this time as one of missing the good cheer, creativity and companionship that comes with in-person time with rughooking friends. We will meet again.
