This rug is adapted from an old family photo of my mother’s parents, Rene and Cecile. The photo was taken in the late 1920’s or early 30’s. I started this rug in 2009 at the Green Mountain Rug School with Roslyn Logsdon as my teacher. I had never used such small cuts, size 3 and 4, or done fine shading. I was totally out of my comfort zone. Shortly after the workshop was over the rug was put away. Over the years the rug came out and went to many more rug schools with different teachers helping me with different areas on the rug. Finally in 2019, with the encouragement of my local rug hooking friends, I decided to finish the rug. I vowed I would only work on ii until done. I finished it just in time for my mother’s 89th birthday this past July 31st.
About the Artist
I started rug hooking in the late 1990’s with Jule Marie Smith as my teacher. Jule became my mentor and friend. She encouraged me to create my own designs, learn from as many different teachers that I could, and taught me how to dye wool. She introduced me to the Green Mountain Rug Hooking Guild and a whole new world opened up to me!
