I made this rug for my dear friends who sadly lost their barn and many animals, including these two sheep in a fire last year. With tremendous support from their community on Martha’s Vineyard, they have since rebuilt the barn and have a new herd of sheep. The rug is my design based on their photo of the sheep taken days before the fire. I used all wool rug yarn, punched on monks cloth with a # 10 Oxford Punch. 23″ X 32″.

About the Artist

I have been drawn to fiber and textiles since I was a young child. I had a little table loom and a hand crank sewing machine by the time I was 7, and a floor loom by the time I was twelve. I come from an ‘artsy’ family and during my childhood, my creative interests were encouraged and supported.
I learned about rug hooking in the early ’90s from a friend. Together we adapted a pattern from an arts and crafts era Charles Voysey wallpaper design. I started hooking it and never looked back. Though I have been hooking for many years now, I still have a lot to learn.
I recently retired from my long career as an oncology nurse and administrator and look forward to devoting more time to hooking and punching rugs.
