I started this rug in a class taught by Diane Phillips. I originally intended to hook an abstract face in a rich color palette; however, when I hooked her eyes, she became quite exotic and powerful! The most difficult part was her head dress. I tried to use a silk tie, but it was not vivid enough. When I found a gorgeous cotton batik, cutting it into strips destroyed the pattern. Ultimately, I used the fabric in tact and as a backing and edge treatment. Dying wooly locks right from the sheep created wonderful hair!

I discovered rug hooking five years ago at a garage sale. Barb Kutner invited me into her home to look at her hooking and then invited me to join a group that meets in Canandaigua. Now I have a wonderful community of friends of creative and inspiring women. My love of rug hooking agrees with my love of travel, taking me to shops and galleries along our routes!
